fail.

Epic. Fail. At doing anything productive today.

I exaggerate, but only a teeeeeensy tiny bit really. However, heres what I DID do:

Fun. Selling the jeans on ebay… and many more items are coming soon!

Listening too… Angus and Julia Stone. Perfection.

you lazy little swine

title cred: Arctic Monkeys - ‘Dancing Shoes’
You don’t really need to hear the thought process behind that decision but I’m quite impressed. I managed to combine shoes and laziness in one blog title.
The laziness refers to the serious lack of posting recently. My bad. Slightly more going on at chictopia. s_s, thats me!
The shoes refers to the fact that I’m currently wearing the heels I bought today in an effort to decide if I should wear them dancing tomorrow night. My heads thinking me no, my hearts saying yes. Who shall winnnnn?

I’m wearing them with socks cause its more comfortable, definitely need tights for the first wearage. This creates a very interesting picture because, as usual, I’m wearing odd socks [I seem incapable of anything but in general] and I needed thin ones so the shoes weren’t too tight. Behold:

The sock on the left was a promotion from work*, there was a book that was called chicken socks and during the lead up my mum[manager] managed to get a pair of socks. They didn’t match, knee high… generally awesome.
The one on the right is from these socks we actually sold** which came in sets of 3 mismatching socks. Idea being you can never find a pair so why bother trying. Genius. Another side of the socks with heels trend isn’t it?
Shoes are from Zu btw, on sale for $50! Not sure what the full price was but I’m not complaining! 1 of 5 items from my shopping spree today, first one in AWHILE, was great fun. Love bridge rd, there was a shop selling nothing over $20. These shoes were the most expensive thing I bought! Wheeee. Ok steph, stop wittering now. *breath* delirious through fatigue, I do apologise. Nice to meet you anyway!

* its a bookshop
** that sells lots of toys and nick nacks too. lol.

Spot the Difference

Wittner’s thought process:
“Let’s see how similar we can make our shoes to the top designers without getting sued!”

This isn’t actually the one I was looking for, though I acutally quite like these. They’ve knocked off Chloe [I'm unsure about those] and well, I recognise them as Topshop not sure of the original origin LOL, how sad. I’ll get back to you. Moral of this story though; Pat Fields speaks, we listen.

And the movies not even out yet.

songs for… monday?

Close enough is good enough people. Yesterday was a blur of nothingness, including the So You Think You Can Dance Australia final in which Jack won [YAY!] and Rhys wore a black blazer covered entirely in sequins!!! Can you say wow?! I can. Wow.

Moving to New York - The Wombats
Love Song - Sara Bareilles [two weeks in a row ooo yeah, I just love to sing along to it]
Four Minutes - Madonna, JT and Timbaland [been into this for a little while but still deserves a mention]
Prescilla - Bat for Lashes
What If - Cog
********************************************************************************************
You may or may not remember a post from a while ago about a white blazer I found and fell in love with but didn’t buy due to sheer impracticality. Guess What!!! I was in that shop today, Temt, and there it was, on the last chance rack. One left. Odds it would be in my size? Pretty much Zero. Guess What!!! It was my size. SO despite my extreme poverty I bought it didn’t I. I’m waiting for my sister to come home and berate me as to its ridiculousness. And then ask if she can borrow it. Haha. Super excited. I even just finished reinforcing the buttons, something I always say I’ll do but never actually end up doing.
In this photo:

Was a bit challenging getting the lighting to work cause there’s clearly a large window not far away but I didn’t want to use artificial light and so heres what your getting. I’m in love with this jacket and the possibilities it brings. I may wear it this friday night, I’m going to see my alma maters musical. Or if I go out thursday, but we all know I’ll just end up taking it off. Will keep you posted. Maybe. I’m pretty sure my track record for keeping you posted when I say that is pretty shocking awful.
*********************************************************************************************
Browsing through a few shops today, Temt, Sportsgirl, a few shoe shops, I find myself to be intrigued by the ‘trends’ I’m seeing. While having surprisingly few strongly negative reactions to any, I’m wholly uninspired. The western shirts seem to already be on their way out, purely due to over-exposure I’m sure so thats over. I did see some grossly embellished boots which made me want to throw up a little in my mouth but even Temt, disposable fashions head quarters, had a surprising number of OK items. Not stuff I’d shell out the big bucks for, but not stuff that you’ll wear twice and then forget about. Quite bizarre. The white jacket shown above is an excellent example. It’s a simple white blazer that will last several seasons… though it’ll probably wear out before I’m sick of it but at the sweet price of $19.95 thats a price I’m willing to pay for less-than-great quality couture. Literally. Ha.
So some shopping tips for yall, if your looking for some comfy cheap knits and tights head on over to Temt. Looking for somewhat overpriced [when you're a starving uni student] but nicer more individual stuff, check out Sportsgirl.
Nice to meet you anyway, thanks to the 4 people who visited on saturday!

Ah ha!!!

I now have bona fide proof that a white blazer isn’t an utterly impractical and stupid purchase!!! WOO HOO. Well, it clearly is, BUT it is also potentially awesome and would allow me to look even a little bit like Lulu of the blog everybody is ugly which I stumbled upon and got an immediate this-is-going-to-be-one-of-my-favourite-blogs moment. I was right. Behold by clicking here.

Now the blazer I found a week or so ago was a bit diff, more dressy in that shiny fabric dress blazers are often made of. Its a discovery I made in Temt which is a chain store here in Aus which is generally crap but has the occasional good thing, you just have to sort through the piles of crap. Everything is under about $50 or $60 so thats pretty awesome. This blazer was originally, I dunno, $40 or $30 but is now $19.95!!!!!!! I KNOW. Another difference between my and Lulu’s blazers, HERS is Helmut Lang and $220USD, and MINE, apart from not being mine yet, is Temt and $19.95. *sigh*

I didn’t buy it. It was the impractical and stupid aspect that cause that. I am now regretting that choice. I might go back. It might not be there, it was on sale and if its not there I might cry. I took some crappy change room pics on my mobile which are, well, crappy mobile pics. [For all the Americans out there mobile=cell...why do you call it that, mobile makes way more sense] However I bluetoothed them to my computer but they are, as previously mentioned, crap.

Crap huh!? Cute blazer though. Hope its still there.

In this photo: [just in case][this just became an unintentional outfit post, score]

purple blouse by Lovely Girl aka random brand sold in little asian-run [they're adorable, they know me] store near my house [also found for roughly double the price in Bardot about a month later, interesting ey!]

jeans by Cheap Monday.
[I was on my way home from uni. Melbourne Central is just FAR TOO TEMPTING... haha get it, TEMTing.]

********************************************************************************************

I just wrote a mini essay about an item of clothing I DON’T EVEN OWN. That’s sad. Oh and, those pics I said were coming of my friday night outfit. Yeah didn’t take any. Soz. Though I suppose its more a me soz thing than a you soz thing. I wore a thrifted dress, originally from target with a vintage belt of my mums, black opaques and gold nine west heels I bought for my year 12 formal that I love and don’t wear enough. They make me very tall.

PS: the reason I say they make me very tall is because I’m already quite tall so I really mean it. They are 10cm, I’m 174cm, that means 184cm, ie. taller than the average male. Fun times. Figured I needed to explain that comment as you [non-existent you] don’t actually know me! :)

new!

Somewhat of an experiment, I bought a cap today on impulse while in Dangerfield. Well I guess not fully impulse but I don’t own anything like it. What do you think?

So its grey which means it’ll fit in PERFECTLY in my wardrobe, I’ve come to the conclusion my wardrobe is scarily monochromatic, as I mentioned the other day. There are certain colours I wear a lot of as well, purple, turquoise and ones I wear a bit, blue and randomly, yellow. [The reason it's random is because yellow actually doesn't look very good on me when I'm not tanned which is pretty much always]. However, the vast majority of my wardrobe is black or grey or at least contains a lot of one or both, with a bit of white thrown in. I think this applies more to my casual wardrobe, most of my dresses are coloured though some black or white or both. It is a quandry.
Theres a supremely relevant post on a blog I’ve visited recently about monochromatic wardrobes that are ACTUALLY monochromatic, but I can’t seem to find it!
Yep officially can’t find it. How annoying, if I do, I’ll let you know.
Oh and you know how I was having a dilemma, leather jacket or white hoodie? Yeah well;
I made my decision! Serious facial expressions not an option when I look this shit sorry. Hoodie was $89.95 by Levi’s, the jacket ended up $149.95 and not the best fit. Who am I kidding, its not as awesome as the Bardot one, so it won’t do. [Every time I type that sentence with Bardot as the brand it surprises me too, I swear.] So I love the hoodie, its super comfy and I bought a medium so its cushy, the small was a bit restrictive. Note: sizing wise I have large shoulders, medium stomach and arms, small waist and boobs so size depends on the item. Alrighty, off to make some hot chocolate and get myself to bed at a reasonable hour. Ciao.
Nice to meet you anyway!

songs for sunday.

Sweet About Me - Gabriella Cilmi

Pumpkin Soup - Kate Nash
A-Punk - Vampire Weekend
New Soul - Yael Naim [pop culture reference: macbook air tv ad]
Prescilla - Bat for Lashes
Whistle For The Choir - The Fratellis
Little Boxes - Malvina Reynolds [pop culture reference: Weeds theme]
Don’t Fight It - The Panics
******************************************************
Outfit goal for the week: wear tights with a dress/skirt to uni and make it look effortless and casual enough.
Shopping goal for the week: My financial situation is finally allowing for the purchase of a new item for winter, either: a white zip up hoodie by Lee, it has pink lightning bolts and is like NOTHING I own. Or, this black leather jacket I’ve blogged about before. Having issues with my wardrobe being too monochromatic, my new favourite jeans being grey brings to light the amount of grey, specifically charcoal clothes I own. So thats a vote for the hoodie. But, I’ve wanted the jacket for ages. *sigh*. Tough choice, I’ll keep you updated though.

money goes bye bye.

Heres a formula for a pitiful bank balance: note that exam time=no work. therefore: exam time+sisters 21st+grad ball+best friends 18th+schooliesUndecided bank balance.

My bank card got a work out today for sure, this time for my sister. A lot of her present isn’t a surprise but I’d rather get her stuff I know she wants. The surprise stuff is stuff I know she wants too though lol. To compensate for this expenditure which is unavoidable, [my sister and I actually get along, shocking I know], I have been economising in the graduation ball department. My dress, which I got as a fluke the other day, was a measly $37 which I was so chuffed with I could barely hold the excitement in [picture below]. I’ll be able to wear it quite a lot too, what more could a girl want. Also, today I visited trusty diva for jewellery, a ring and a cuff bangle for a respectable $15. I am reusing my formal shoes which I love anyway and I am officially tres happy.

The most irreversable aspect of that equation up there, is the exam time thing. The reason for all my woes and troubles, it’s also the reason for the sporadic posts I’ve been doing. I think I should get some sort of award for my skill at delaying study. Especially interesting because I’ve had 3 exams [of 6] and I still haven’t done the study for them…
Haha. My wit astounds me. It’s true at least for the one today, maths [hence the formula] number 1 of 2 this one was without a calculator and the ‘easier’ of the two. I’m doomed.

As I live through this nightmare my posts may suffer but the light is getting closer everyday. I’ll do my very best. 3 people visited this blog last weekend. As you, dear reader, are now. Even if you never come back, I hope I entertained you, even for a short while. It was nice to meet you anyway.

aaand its THAT time of year again.

Yep, you heard it here first! Bathers season is here and no matter what state or country your from and what you may call them, swimsuits are the cause of headaches everywhere as summer is once again, just around the corner. I know personally, I find the very idea of bathers shopping depressing, due to my so-called ‘winter-weight’ which is really ‘yr 12 weight’ that is probably here to stay.

HOWEVER! My life is made a teeeeny bit better by the RETURN OF THE ONE PIECE. And thank god for that. As a person who is not, never will be and doesn’t want to be, super-skinny, I’m rejoicing at the revival of the one piece. Personally, the person who made it go away in the first place should be shot. Some people don’t want to prance around with 10 square centimeters of fabric on them! Deal with it!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The bathers market is a very wide one and I’ve enjoyed perusing the yearly ’swimsuit issues’ of various magazines and marvelling at the number of bathers I could never and/or would never wear. Sure Paris Hilton might wear a crocheted pair of bathers but shes very thin and has an opposite-of-curvy body type. People should not be making of example of these people. Just cause Uma Thurman wore a high-waisted bikini, in white no less, doesn’t mean your average chica can too. To those of you who are blessed with a bikini ready body, or for those willing to work for it, enjoy your bikini-ini-ini. But for normal girls, somewhat curvy, not unhealthy but with some padding round the edges, we’ll stick to something more modest like the one piece up there. [Jets by Jesika Allen, if anyone was wondering]

So some brands to check out, for a girl on a bit of a budget too.

- Seafolly; great separates to mix and match with or just buy one and wear last years bottoms, your wallet will love you. Personally, I’m after the blue one piece at the not toooo bad price of $110. ps. ruching or gathering on the sides is the ultimate in flattery.

- Tigerlily; every year this brand has great stuff but their prices are also inching upwards and upwards. Beware of the seperates as you will spend more. Also not particularly body conscious. Gorgeous though, for those who can.

- Von Zipper; there is a graphic checkered one piece in black and white with some colour here and there which I think I’m in love with, its low cut for a little extra skin, and its $79.95!

- Mambo; they’re back [I remember Mambo from back in yr 8] and their bathers are very cool and young, great patterns, if you can pull off the cut-out look, you’ll find something here.

- Jets; you will pay a little more, but its so worth it! Stunning, stunning stuff. Check out the website, amazing catalogue this year.

- Rochford; simple, elegant, affordable. Winner.

- Baku; Never heard of them till this year but lots of options for everyone, gotta love versatility. Covers all the trends and lots of different cuts. Very well priced too, bonus!

I could go on, but I won’t. Shops wise, [for you Melbournites] don’t rely on Ozmosis or Jetty Surf. Make the trek to Swimwear Galore in Fitzroy or even David Jones and Myer for waaaay more options and brands. I know Swimwear Galore has many of those brands I just mentioned, and theres a shop in Camberwell thats well known for the same thing.

Bathers shopping tip numero uno: *drumroll please* If you MUST take a friend, then make it an honest one, the truth may hurt but you’ll be grateful once you get to the beach. Take you sister, or if you don’t have one, your mum. Trust me, they may not have the same taste but they will say when something looks wrong on you. Oh, and NEVER rely on shop assistants, no matter how nice they seem, at the end of the day theyre doing a job.

Good luck to one and all, I know I need it!
