Next I’ll have bells on my toes…

Forefinger; 1. silver with red inlay, bought in hobart 2 years ago. 2. bling-a-ling bronze dazzler, diva. 3. silver with cutaway gold stripe, sportsgirl.
Middle: 1. purple pointy oval stone thingy [NEW!] stall in my local shopping centre 2. silver square with turquoise inlay, jewellery stall at northland years ago.
Ring: 1. Sportsgirl gold bow ring 2. Diva bejewelled gold ring 3. Dinosaur Designs blue resin ring 4. Diva bejewelled ring [quite old]
Little: 1. turquoise flower diva?equip?sportsgirl? 2. silver with black rectangular inlay, bought in NSW years ago 3. encrusted lady bird, equip.

I’ve long been enamoured with rings of all types shapes and sizes, hindered only by my slightly abnormally large hands and therefore fingers. However, I’ve only recently discovered the joy in wearing multiple [as in more than 2] rings at once, even on the same fingers, this photo doesn’t fully show a few on them but its fun. Makes talking with your hands even prettier too. I do have an issue with rings leaving those horrible greeny marks on your fingers, though my solution to this is to never take them off :P. I will be attempting to expand my collection to enclude more upmarket and therefore better quality items, I have an issue that I like to wear mostly gold and the cheap gold is the stuff that leaves the worst greenness and the gold actually wears away really badly which is very sad. Plastic is a solution, though gives a rather different look, my dino designs ring is one I can and do wear with almost everything. The big purple one is also a step up, adjustable so it fits my gigundo fingers and doesn’t leave marks unless you wear it for literally 24 hours. I bought that and one of the sparkly diva ones to go with my grad ball dress and shoes [purple dress, gold shoes]

So if anyone has any recommendations for somewhere I can purchase funky gold rings for not too much that don’t leave crap behind on my fingers, that’d be much appreciated, thanks.

Newbies

A post dedicated to the new things in my life, because a stale life is no life at all.

Music: Shy Child are a musical duo straight out of NYC whose music is a real breath of fresh air. Check out their performance at Fashion Rocks here where they accompanied Stella McCartney’s models playing musical chairs, quite possibly my favourite performance of the night, purely for the vibe and the truly infectious song.

Website: www.whowhatweardaily.com  a one stop shop for a fashion and celebrity fix, their slogan is “We don’t care who you’re dating or if you eat. We only care about what you wear.” Need I say more?

Necklace: my sister found these cool discs in different sizes with little hieroglyphic style things on them in a $2 shop. She bought me 3 for about $1.50 and I used a chain from a necklace I never wear and hey presto! New jewellery for nothing, all the buzz for none of the cost.

Bag: A quality Savers buy I got this tiny leather bag on a long strap for $3 or something, it fits my phone, a lip gloss some gum and thats about it but I love it.

Appointment: I booked my driving test the other day, eep! I can’t WAIT to be able to drive, January [my 18th] won’t come soon enough.

This is my attempt to improve my mood tonight, I’m a bit flat, exams do that to a person, I’ve had a headache all day and thus study has been a challenge and I’m uninspired. Television on a saturday always leaves me wanting as well so I’m quite down in the dumps. Oh well, tomorrows another day is it not.

This is my last resort…

What do you do when your bored? For me, its usually go on the internet, go on the computer or read a magazine. Occasionally [and i mean OCCAISIONALLY] I’ll do some homework but thats a very rare mood and usually doesn’t last very long. BUT my point is, there are millions, maybe billions of websites out there, and so many of them are such crap I don’t know why people bother. Wait, why do I bother??

Oh, right, nothing better to do than spout random thoughts into cyberspace. I think I just like the concept of people from anywhere into anything completely different or similar to myself can read this blog and know a little bit about a complete stranger. But I thought I’d chuck a few links out there for thems that wants [at last count, that was nobody].

www.thecoolhunter.com - Fun stuff. Everything from architecture to art to furniture to fashion. I virtual mine of interesting things.

www.facebook.com - Sad I know but I’m only really in it for the games. Jetman is addictive plus the old faves of Tetris and Pacman. Plus you can compare your score to other people which is what modern life is all about isn’t it?

www.galadarling.com - She’s cute in a kitsch kinda way, though it’s very possible I’d hate her if I met her, she knows how to write a blog.

www.missyconfidential.com.au - Wouldn’t want to miss out on the sale of the year would you? Didn’t think so.

www.ebay.com.au - Oldie but a goodie.

www.Eonlline.com - I like the fashion police part myself, some witty comments about some heinous outfits.

www.miijo.com - some cool stuff, some painful trends, but I enjoy a browse here and there. Also, once you’ve had a look round the jewellery, go into equip, the similarities are hilarious. Though the prices, not so similar.

www.google.com.au - When all else fails, google yourself.

I read some thing earlier about how a good website should say ‘look at me’ it should say ‘I’m what you were looking for.’ Personally when I’m online I’m rarely looking for anything in particular, unless it’s for school but entertainment can always be found in mysterious places.

At some point I’m going to post something about bathers, but putting photos on here is a drag so I need more time than I have this evening. I’m off to bed, working tomorrow *sigh*.

Can’t get enough fashion…

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Patriotism aside, I love Toni Maticevski. Just enough danger with just enough girliness, these two are so pretty I want the one on the top, especially the belt, might leave the shoes.

Marni hasn’t always been my favourite but I do like this collection, so cohesive, love the belts. I think I like the dress on the bottom cause that cut suits my body type really well, as I’m no stick figure, its good to see on a high fashion runway.

This Cavalli collection was a bit of a departure but I really liked it! The flowy soft lines were pretty and sexy at the same time. I’m just waiting for the white gown to show up on the red carpet and I especially love this blue, jewel tones are here to stay people.

fluro

i mean, are you kidding me???

For crying out loud, walk past most high street stores and you’ll see their window bedecked in fluro EVERYTHING. From jewellery to tights, and my PERSONAL favourite, slogan tees, fluro is everywhere. and id like to pose the question. Where the hell did it all come from?

Most fashion trends come from celebrities like sienna miller, mischa barton, nicole richie etc etc etc blah blah blah. Walk into your nearest Sportsgirl and you’ll find kate moss’ short shorts from not last tuesday but the one before you know? Cause we’ve all met her personally, or may as well have considering how well some people seem to know her wardrobe.  Its all well and good though, inspiration has to come from somewhere right? Also its the high end designers who we see rip offs of in our stores. But really, fluro?? Some things are meant for the 80s and the catwalk. And thats it. Please. Or else we’re all going to have to start wearing sunglasses inside like the fully sick hip hopper too cool for school cats that we are.

For this party I was going to last weekend [theme: fluro retro], I ventured into the new Supre store on Bourke St Mall in the Melbourne CBD for something fluro to add to this sweet as sunshine yellow high waisted skirt I bought at Savers. Now this shop is HUGE and I mean HUGE. I lost my friend in there for no joke 10 or 15 minutes and theres about 25 change rooms. It’s got its own redcarpet and ‘door bitch’ who was in fact male on this particular day. The shop is basically black on the inside but you don’t have to worry about seeing clearly cause the fluro shit everywhere creates enough light for most of Melbourne to see by! Now fluro is bad bad bad. But you know what, theres nothing worse than a slogan tee, untill you make it fluro. Now not all slogan tees are terrible, I do give credit to some designers but Supre really doesn’t fall in that category. I don’t care how much you ‘heart’ your boyfriend, or that your having a ‘bad hair day’ [when clearly you got up 15 mins early to do your hair extra nicely so you could wear that top and everyone would look at your hair]!!! Its fashion for the masses, completely disposable, and in 5 years, hell in 6 months i guarantee you will be looking back at yourself saying WHAT WAS I THINKING. Fluro is [hopefully] only going to be around for 30 seconds, and for my sake I really hope the inane slogan tees the year 7s and 8s at my school seem so enamoured with, go with it.

Quite apart from the basic ugliness of fluro clothing, ITS. NOT. FLATTERING. Show me someone who actually looks good with fluro yellow, green or orange next to their skin and ill give you…something fluro! Though I’m sure there are those who pull it off, I really don’t see why you’d want to when theres so much other, much more wearable and less blinding fashion out there. And god forbid anyone things fluro yellow tights are flattering, and those lurex metallic leggings are full on enough, acid yellow??? Spare me.

So here are my rules for how/when to wear the latest trend: fluro, though you quite possibly need your head examined:

1.  if your going to a retro party.

2. if your going to a fluro party.

3. if, like me last sunday, your going to a fluro retro party.

4. if your under 10.

5. if your male and can pull of that im so cool i didnt even look at this tshirt before i bought it and threw it on over my [probably skinny and female] jeans and still managed to look soooo hip. [though a vintage tee would be even better]

and for those sad sad people who just wear trends cause they’re trends and they have to, stick to accessories, preferably the plastic resin type bangles and rings which are small enough they won’t blind everyone you see. [and if they're not fluro can actually be really cool].

If I believed in god, the fashion victims who wear fluro leggings and the like, would be in my prayers tonight.

introducing me

I’m Steph, I’m 17 and chances are you’ll meet a hundred people who fit into those criteria. I live in Melbourne which is awesome. I’m into fashion and music, I’m in year 12 and I just bought a car.

Quite apart from the fact that none of you care I thought I’d make this blog just in case I feel like writing anything, feel the need to put some knowledge into cyberspace for all and none to read.

So, words of wisdom a la Steph. I find myself devoid of words to wisdom, as murphy would have it. I burnt myself today, a rather painful experience, not very badly but I was at work and thus kept banging the burn, being on my knuckle as it was want to be, and having to put my hand in hot places. ouch. I recently read that a burn keeps ‘burning’ your skin for 30 minutes after the burn occurs, so your supposed to keep it in hot water that long. Seems a bit drastic no? Since I was at work I was unable to do this, but it feels okay now.

HOW BORING  I hearby apologise for being thoroughly boring. Interesting, I’ve semi-often had a thought and decided to start a blog to share said thought with others. Things like, don’t wear head to toe fluro. Seems obvious, but according to recent magazines and shop windows *cough*supre*cough* APPARENTLY NOT.

Did you know eyebrows are back? Sounds weird but for years now, super-groomed eyebrows were a necessity, perfectly arched and symmetrical or your screwed. But now, bushier growths are making a comeback, which I like to think I had a hand in, as a bushier browed girl myself. I’m not saying go John Howard style but don’t be afraid to grow them thicker and wider, changing your eyebrows can have a MASSIVE affect on the way your face looks.

okay well, as this momentus first post draws to a close, I’ll be back with some more pearls for yall, next time I feel like it.

even if you never come back, it was nice to meet you anyway.
