Seventh on Sale

MK & A Olsen are style icons apparently, and I usually agree. At Thursday’s Seventh on Sale gala, though they didn’t make the style.com photo reel [shock horror], they both donned white and the same hippy-ish hairstyle. Ashley went for her signature polished straight look, which a polished slim lined floor length gown to match. She looked stunning as usual. MK created more buzz with her look, I think it reads “I’ve got my shit together…kind of.” perfectly. The dress is a white fluffy concoction, heinously short but so is she so who gives. And then, as we continue our scroll down the ensemble we reach the shoes. As heinously high as the dress, if I wore these I’d be some kind of giant, taller than jack’s beanstalk. However, the pink and white sky scrapers by Valli are called Victoria [as in Beckham] for a reason. I’m sorry but I just can’t deal with something names after someone who is so painfully styled it hurts. Sure, I’ve seen some interviews with Posh where she actually comes across as genuine, kinda funny and pretty all around cool. However, she looks like she was dipped in a pot of some sort of shiny wax and polished within an inch of her life, so polished all the body fat disappeared off her body. Aside from the link with Ms Beckham, I’m sorry but fluro pink platforms will never be okay, and MK should know better. The tackometer on her hobo/foho rock n roll chic vintage collage of a personal style has never been this low…or high. Now I’m confused.

Style winners of the night where for the men Derek Lam and Karolina Kurkova who rocked up with Thom Browne wearing one of his suits. Tres co

Next I’ll have bells on my toes…

Forefinger; 1. silver with red inlay, bought in hobart 2 years ago. 2. bling-a-ling bronze dazzler, diva. 3. silver with cutaway gold stripe, sportsgirl.
Middle: 1. purple pointy oval stone thingy [NEW!] stall in my local shopping centre 2. silver square with turquoise inlay, jewellery stall at northland years ago.
Ring: 1. Sportsgirl gold bow ring 2. Diva bejewelled gold ring 3. Dinosaur Designs blue resin ring 4. Diva bejewelled ring [quite old]
Little: 1. turquoise flower diva?equip?sportsgirl? 2. silver with black rectangular inlay, bought in NSW years ago 3. encrusted lady bird, equip.

I’ve long been enamoured with rings of all types shapes and sizes, hindered only by my slightly abnormally large hands and therefore fingers. However, I’ve only recently discovered the joy in wearing multiple [as in more than 2] rings at once, even on the same fingers, this photo doesn’t fully show a few on them but its fun. Makes talking with your hands even prettier too. I do have an issue with rings leaving those horrible greeny marks on your fingers, though my solution to this is to never take them off :P. I will be attempting to expand my collection to enclude more upmarket and therefore better quality items, I have an issue that I like to wear mostly gold and the cheap gold is the stuff that leaves the worst greenness and the gold actually wears away really badly which is very sad. Plastic is a solution, though gives a rather different look, my dino designs ring is one I can and do wear with almost everything. The big purple one is also a step up, adjustable so it fits my gigundo fingers and doesn’t leave marks unless you wear it for literally 24 hours. I bought that and one of the sparkly diva ones to go with my grad ball dress and shoes [purple dress, gold shoes]

So if anyone has any recommendations for somewhere I can purchase funky gold rings for not too much that don’t leave crap behind on my fingers, that’d be much appreciated, thanks.

All-Natural Never-Fail Boredom Cure

Magazines!!!

Simple yet effective.

Whether its the ones that come with the paper on the weekend, or the monthlies read by thousands of fashionistas everywhere, I’ll devour it like its a hot chocolate dipped in coffee rolled in cocoa on a cold winter eve. A tried a true method for a fashion, celeb and human interest hit a magazine comes with all the entertainment of a book, but none of the committment AND all the fashion writing of an online blog but in 3D and deliciously portable.

I have a subscription to Shop Til You Drop, a present from a family friend which is a little slice of heaven delivered to my door every month. Shop is a good one for fashion fashion and more fashion, always something I want to buy and its so nice when you see something you already own in there too! My sister gets Cleo [from the same family friend!] and also Marie Claire. Cleo is more dense in articles than Shop which also has its place, and Marie Claire shows everything I could ever want and never afford. At least not yet :P [here's hoping]. Pretty much every month my sis and I inevitably will buy Cosmo [where Gala from iCiNG has a column!] and maybe Madison for more of that commercial hit. We occasionally get Vogue for some high fashion goodness and I really enjoy the more indie mags Nylon when I can find it and my fav bi monthly publication frankie which in my opinion also has the best website, bonus.

For me, sitting down with a good magazine is kind of like sitting down to the computer after a month of not visiting any of my favourite blogs and reading it all in one hit. Unadultered yumminess.

Did you know…

that just under 50% of women never leave home with a USB memory stick? Reading an article in the green guide this week I was not surprised that 95% own a mobile phone [I mean really, who doesn't]. I thought 81% with a digital camera was actually slightly low, though maybe thats just cause of my age group, I believe we’re called the iGeneration for a reason.

iGeneration is one of many nick names for my generation, some people might even consider me part of Generation Y, [but only just]. I’m somewhere inbetween Y and i [aka the internet generation] because I do have some memories of a pre-internet world but I was born in the 90s [by a day or 5].

But anyway, back to the original point of this, the article that prompted this post is talking about the design revolution in technology, lead by Apple of course, that is fuelled by the femal geek, the female who wants a phone that looks good AND does everything and more. We want a digital camera we can fit in any handbag, an iPod [or some derivative thereof] that holds more music than we can poke a stick at. We NEED entertainment like the cute Nintendo Wii or Nintendo DS Lite both pretty, sleek and useful. Unless I’m, very much mistaken the DS is the one where the ad features a female whose probably about 20, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before with this kind of product.

Clearly, with Apple dominating in the mp3 and computer side of things, I think the biggest market with room for growth is clearly mobiles phones, though Apple are even making headway there. Personally the Prada phone for LG tickles my fancy though at $999 I’ll be admiring it from afar for a while yet. This article poaches a little fact from another article in the same supplement that talks about the lack of female skewed radio called the 80% minority. Both these articles make a point that 80% of buying decisions are made or influenced by women, and yet many of the big wigs are scared of ‘alienating’ 50% of their market [ie. men]. In our voyeuristic, narcissistic society, materialism is back, geek is the new chic and we’re on the cusp of this long awaited technolgical revolution. In the 50’s it was dishwashers and microwaves. The noughties and beyond are bringing advancements like these, completely unforseen and completely marketable, and once again their aimed at women. But this time the women are gadget savvy business women instead of stay at home wives and mothers.

Women these days are gradually becoming more likely to buy a MacBook, an iPod or a new phone than this seasons ‘It’ bag by good old MJ [Marc Jacobs] or Balenciaga as seen on Micha, Nicole or MK&A.

want/need

GO [heart] YOUR OWN CITY tshirt.

Easton Pearson belt buckle

One piece pair of bathers [probably Seafolly or Von Zipper, and yes I actually need some new bathers, I've managed to LOSE my favourite pair *slaps head* and my other ones are 3 years old and don't really fit properly.

a decent gold ring. [I just want one that will stay gold! It's not my fault I'm poor and diva is all I can afford]

Another pair of Cheap Monday jeans. [sass and bide pair I just bought at the warehouse sale have already streched, though its possibly partly my fault]

95+ ENTER [dream on sister]

decent fake id for schoolies [shhhh]

subscription to Frankie [marieke hardy cracks me up, in the green guide too, i wish i was half as good as her]

love

my hat from sportsgirl; straw and awesome for summer, if you see me on schoolies, chances are I’ll be wearing this hat.

sunglasses; see post about how much I love sunglasses.

buttons; sticking them on hair slides not only makes me feel arty and cool but looks super cute. I made one earlier to go with my grad ball dress, tis purple and gold

saying ’super cute’ and ‘que pasa’ but this must only be used totally out of context. Makes life fun.

finishing exams; 6 down, 1 to go

rings; I bought two [count them TWO] rings to wear to grad ball, this would be great, except I already had one I planned on wearing which I love. I hate choices like these :(.

giving presents; I probably sound pretentious but I genuinely like giving people presents, I love to see the look on their face when I just know they’ll love it.

The Joy of Sunglasses

I love the simplicity of sunglasses, the functionality and the fun one can get out of a new pair. Slipping on a fab pair of sunnies re-invents any stale outfit [not that I have any of those...] like these vintage ones pictured. I personally have terrible luck with breaking sunglasses, a truly heartbreaking experience but I have a few pairs that I absolutely adore. For me, the bug eyed look is the best because I have a long face I can take the height, in fact, smaller ones make me look balloon headed. So the Nicole Richie and Rachel Zoe’s of the world did me a favour when they started wearing the massive sunnies, though unlike Nicole mine don’t dwarf my face. I’m just, like, totally that big headed. Haha.

So my advice is visit trusty www.ebay.com where you will have to sort through the b/s but there are some gems in there. I also discovered www.80spurple.com which has a good range of clothes as well as a kickass sunglasses section, not sure where they’re based, $13 for a pair of sunnies sounds a bit too sweet to me, beware of p&h. Spread the joy of sunglasses!

There is much to be said…

in favour of warm sunny Sunday afternoons. I say afternoons because I didn’t get up until then today though I sort of wish I had. Sort of Wink. But, when I finally rose, it was to a beautiful 28ish degree day, all bright blue skies and golden sunshine. It was lovely, and I liked it specially because I don’t actually like the heat and I could sit in the shade and be comfortable but the sun was nice and warm. I even had a swim in my 30degree pool a bit later on which was my first swim of the season which I enjoyed thoroughly.

Now if only I hadn’t been studying madly for my exam tomorrow it would have been perfect. But perfect is a myth and I’ll take the next best thing when it comes my way. After all, if life was perfect people would actually read this blog! 2 people did on friday woot, nice to meet you anyway.

Newbies

A post dedicated to the new things in my life, because a stale life is no life at all.

Music: Shy Child are a musical duo straight out of NYC whose music is a real breath of fresh air. Check out their performance at Fashion Rocks here where they accompanied Stella McCartney’s models playing musical chairs, quite possibly my favourite performance of the night, purely for the vibe and the truly infectious song.

Website: www.whowhatweardaily.com  a one stop shop for a fashion and celebrity fix, their slogan is “We don’t care who you’re dating or if you eat. We only care about what you wear.” Need I say more?

Necklace: my sister found these cool discs in different sizes with little hieroglyphic style things on them in a $2 shop. She bought me 3 for about $1.50 and I used a chain from a necklace I never wear and hey presto! New jewellery for nothing, all the buzz for none of the cost.

Bag: A quality Savers buy I got this tiny leather bag on a long strap for $3 or something, it fits my phone, a lip gloss some gum and thats about it but I love it.

Appointment: I booked my driving test the other day, eep! I can’t WAIT to be able to drive, January [my 18th] won’t come soon enough.

This is my attempt to improve my mood tonight, I’m a bit flat, exams do that to a person, I’ve had a headache all day and thus study has been a challenge and I’m uninspired. Television on a saturday always leaves me wanting as well so I’m quite down in the dumps. Oh well, tomorrows another day is it not.

money goes bye bye.

Heres a formula for a pitiful bank balance: note that exam time=no work. therefore: exam time+sisters 21st+grad ball+best friends 18th+schooliesUndecided bank balance.

My bank card got a work out today for sure, this time for my sister. A lot of her present isn’t a surprise but I’d rather get her stuff I know she wants. The surprise stuff is stuff I know she wants too though lol. To compensate for this expenditure which is unavoidable, [my sister and I actually get along, shocking I know], I have been economising in the graduation ball department. My dress, which I got as a fluke the other day, was a measly $37 which I was so chuffed with I could barely hold the excitement in [picture below]. I’ll be able to wear it quite a lot too, what more could a girl want. Also, today I visited trusty diva for jewellery, a ring and a cuff bangle for a respectable $15. I am reusing my formal shoes which I love anyway and I am officially tres happy.

The most irreversable aspect of that equation up there, is the exam time thing. The reason for all my woes and troubles, it’s also the reason for the sporadic posts I’ve been doing. I think I should get some sort of award for my skill at delaying study. Especially interesting because I’ve had 3 exams [of 6] and I still haven’t done the study for them…
Haha. My wit astounds me. It’s true at least for the one today, maths [hence the formula] number 1 of 2 this one was without a calculator and the ‘easier’ of the two. I’m doomed.

As I live through this nightmare my posts may suffer but the light is getting closer everyday. I’ll do my very best. 3 people visited this blog last weekend. As you, dear reader, are now. Even if you never come back, I hope I entertained you, even for a short while. It was nice to meet you anyway.
